Max wasn't one hundred percent sure why he was out here. Or maybe he was. He was out here because he wanted to see the clear sky. To see the birds that flew in it. Even though, he had to sit under the shade of a fruit tree to keep his dark, double coat from causing him to overheat. As another precaution toward the heat, he sat beside the river. It's babbling and gurgling were quite peaceful, something he generally didn't know. The sky was a bright, calm blue, and the grass was a deep, luscious green. It being summer, there were a few late fruits still clinging to the tree branches, but most had fallen on the ground by now. The fruit on the ground, few recently had fallen, most had fallen a little while back. Some fruit had obviously been eaten by field mice, some fruit was rotten and gave a sickly sweet smell, and others were completely untouched. The fruits ranged from red to green to yellow. Apples. He was sitting beneath an apple tree. Well, whatever works, right?
And what worked right now was walking into the river so that the water was up to his chest, his hind legs still on dry land. He lapped at the cold water, standing there for a moment and giving a yawn from the dull, hot summer day. Another couple laps at that water and Max made his way back to his spot underneath the apple tree, laying down, and closing his eyes in the heat to help him forget about the heat of the day.

Long silver legs stretched out as the Weimaraner tracked a line of prey. THe scent path was decently recent and she hoped that she would get lucky. Gently, she picked up speed as the trail became slightly fresher. The fem was so intent on her tracking that she was only a few feet from the water when she noticed it. Her head jerked up in surprise even as her strides carried her into the water. In the middle of the stream, she came to a dead stop and looked around. The surprise was evident on her face, and she nearly growled as she saw a male up river from her. He was larger than her and much more fluffy, though in this type of weather her coat was much more helpful. Slowly, she looked up at him, but didn't move toward him.

The splash is what drew his attention. He'd been certain he was alone. But then again, she looked about as surprised to see another dog as he was. For a moment, the other female he'd met passed through his thoughts, tempting him to growl. He only just barely held it back, but it was obvious from the way he stood that he was not happy. But since he wasn't growling, maybe she'd realize he wasn't angry with her, even if he wasn't so sure he wanted her company.
The only thing he didn't understand at this point was why she was in the river. Her coat wasn't as thick as his, so this was probably a good temperatured day for her. Maybe she tried to fish, jumped in, and missed. Giving the idea a mental shrug of possibility, he stood walking back to the water's edge. He called to the female, [blue]"You do realize you're a dog and not a fish?"[/blue]
